There’s nothing to prevent you from having so much fun! 2021 promises major changes in online casinos. The legal situation is changing, allowing legal gambling on the Internet throughout Germany. This will eventually reveal an uncertain gray area, allowing light to enter the darkness.
State Convention on Gambling
This year, the State Convention on Gambling has been updated to meet the new requirements of modern casinos. More and more players are visiting online casinos and taking advantage of many benefits such as attractive welcome bonuses, frequent promotions, large offers, and the fact that they are not limited to business hours. Going to the casino has never been so easy.
This newly negotiated treaty, also known as the State Treaty on Gambling, will enter into force on 1 July 2021 and will legalize online gambling in all 16 federal states of Germany. So far, only the Federal State has had the opportunity to decide on its own approval of online casinos, but licenses and permits have only been granted in Schleswig-Holstein.
Gambling is actually banned at the national level because the potential for addiction is so great. But this will change soon. However, after October 15, 2020, there are provisional regulations that allow the legal operation of online casinos in Germany as long as the provider meets the requirements.
It’s changing
Liberalization means great relief for providers and potential customers, but the new gambling state treaty contains many regulations that must be complied with.
For example, a so-called lock file is set. Player data is stored and passed to other online casinos as needed. This is to prevent players from logging in to multiple online casinos and using unlimited funds. This means that consumer protection exists. The protection of minors is especially important here.
Advantages and Disadvantages
The decisive advantage is, of course, increased protection for players, especially addicted players. In addition, young people cannot participate in casinos or place bets. At the same time, regulated markets mean that online casino licenses and permits can be checked more easily.
On the downside, it should be mentioned that high levels of security are especially expensive for online casino operators, so it is difficult for many to establish a position in the German market. Maximum deposits and live betting limits are also sources of consumer dissatisfaction. Over time, we will know if these regulations need to be revised again.
